2011 earthquakes within 30 miles (48 km) of Jo's Fleece Fields

This map is centered on our home and farm. There have been 134 earthquakes reported by the USGS in 2011 with an epicenter within approximately 30 miles (48 km) of our home. (There have been more reported, but earthquakes centered on known gravel pits and indicating the movement is centered at the surface have been discarded as gravel pit blasting.) The stongest earthquake in 2011 was a 3.2 magnitude quake that occurred September 22. There were 5 days in 2011 with 3 earthquakes reported, about one every other month.

See also 2008 quakes, 2009 quakes, 2010 quakes, 2012 quakes, 2013 quakes, and 2014 quakes, or for a densely marked map, all earthquakes since we starting tracking them in 2008.

The markers used to show epicenters are sized relative to the size of the earthquake.

The markers are:
  • magnitudes 1.0-1.4
  • magnitudes 2.0-2.4
  • magnitudes 3.0-3.9
  • magnitudes 1.5-1.9
  • magnitudes 2.5-2.9
  • magnitudes 4.0-4.9
Use the in the top left corner of the map to zoom in or out. The scroll wheel on your mouse (if you have one) also will zoom the map. Click and hold the map and slide your mouse to pan to another center point.

If your mouse hovers over a pushpin the date and magnitude of the quake will be displayed.

Oldest earthquakes are displayed first, so newer quake pegs may cover older quakes.

Purple rings indicate 10 mile (16km) distance from the farm.
